When is the best time to cancel?
That depends on your subscription. A fixed-term subscription, for example one you took out through an introductory offer, runs until the end of the term. If you already know you do not want to continue, cancel straight away: your cancellation then simply takes effect at the end of the term, and the subscription is not converted into an open-ended one.
Has your subscription already renewed automatically? Then it is an open-ended subscription, and under Dutch law (the Wet van Dam) you can cancel it at any time, with a notice period of one month.

What is the notice period for newspapers and magazines?

A fixed-term subscription may be tacitly renewed if you do not cancel at least one month before the end of the term. After renewal, subscriptions often continue in periods of up to three months, and you can cancel with one month’s notice.
